Ruth Abbott and Maya Cointreau are the proprietors of Hygeia. They're at the store every day, taking care of clients and dreaming big. Ruth is a certified herbalist and Reiki master with degrees from The Village West Prescriptives School of Clinical Botanical Medicine and the Northwestern Connecticut College with Mark McDermott, and also runs Rabbott's Remedies, a company that makes herbal remedies for every ailment. She founded the center in November 2003 with her good friend Claudia Baxter. In July 2004 Maya came on as Ruth's new partner. Maya is an herbalist, shamanic energy healer & Reiki Master. She co-founded and runs Earth Lodge Herbals, a company that formulates and supplies flower essences and herbal remedies for people and animals.
